Historia del Club Español de Australia Occidental

El Club Español de Australia Occidental, ubicado en 48 Baker Court, North Lake WA 6064, es un pilar fundamental para la comunidad española, latina y local en Perth, con una rica historia que se remonta a varias décadas atrás. Los orígenes del club se pueden rastrear hasta 1970, cuando un grupo de españoles recién llegados a Perth se reunieron en el North Perth Hotel con el objetivo de crear dos clubes: uno para adultos, que incluiría un equipo de fútbol, y otro para menores, donde se organizarían equipos infantiles. En aquel momento, la comunidad española alquilaba un piso para gestionar los equipos y las actividades del club.

Este encuentro inicial marcó el comienzo de un viaje hacia la creación de un espacio comunitario sólido. Tras varios años de reuniones informales y de búsqueda de un lugar adecuado, en 1972 el club rentó unas instalaciones en Newcastle Street, lo que marcó el comienzo de una nueva etapa más formalizada. Este espacio se convirtió en el punto de encuentro para los miembros, donde se celebraban reuniones, eventos sociales y, por supuesto, partidos de fútbol.

El crecimiento de la comunidad y la necesidad de un espacio más permanente y amplio llevaron al club a comprar una propiedad comercial en Oxford Street en 1976. Este hito reflejó el compromiso y la determinación de los miembros de consolidar una base sólida para el club. Durante los años siguientes, las instalaciones de Oxford Street fueron el corazón de las actividades del Club Español de Australia Occidental, donde se celebraban fiestas, se organizaban eventos culturales y se fortalecían los lazos entre los miembros.

Sin embargo, la ambición de la comunidad no se detuvo allí. Con el objetivo de construir un hogar definitivo para el club, los miembros trabajaron incansablemente para reunir los recursos necesarios. Finalmente, en 1987, el club pudo comprar un terreno en North Lake, gracias a la generosa donación del Ayuntamiento de Cockburn. Con el dinero obtenido de la venta de la propiedad de Oxford Street, los propios socios del club se pusieron manos a la obra para construir lo que sería su sede actual.

El 28 de noviembre de 1987, el Club Español de Australia Occidental inauguró su nueva sede en 48 Baker Court, North Lake WA 6064. La construcción, realizada por los socios con sus propias manos, simbolizó el espíritu de comunidad y dedicación que siempre ha caracterizado a la institución. Desde entonces, el club ha sido un punto de referencia para la comunidad española, latina y local en Perth, ofreciendo un espacio donde se puede disfrutar de la cultura, el idioma y las tradiciones de España.

Hoy en día, el Club Español de Australia Occidental cumple 38 años desde su establecimiento en North Lake, un testimonio de la perseverancia y el compromiso de sus miembros a lo largo de las décadas. El club sigue siendo un hogar lejos del hogar para generaciones de españoles en Perth, y su historia continúa escribiéndose con cada nueva actividad, cada nuevo evento y cada nueva generación que se une a esta vibrante comunidad.

The club's origins date back to 1970, when a group of newly arrived Spanish migrants in Perth met at the North Perth Hotel with the goal of creating two clubs: one for adults, including a football team, and one for minors, with children's teams. At that time, the Spanish community rented a flat to manage the teams and club activities.

This initial meeting marked the beginning of a journey towards creating a solid community space. After several years of informal meetings and searching for a suitable location, in 1972 the club rented premises on Newcastle Street, marking the beginning of a more formalized phase. This space became the meeting point for members, where meetings, social events, and football matches were held.

The community's growth and the need for a more permanent and spacious location led the club to purchase a commercial property on Oxford Street in 1976. This milestone reflected the members' commitment and determination to consolidate a solid base for the club. During the following years, the Oxford Street premises were the heart of the Spanish Club of Western Australia's activities, where parties, cultural events, and community bonds were strengthened.

However, the community's ambition did not stop there. With the goal of building a definitive home for the club, members worked tirelessly to gather the necessary resources. Finally, in 1987, the club was able to purchase land in North Lake, thanks to the generous donation from the City of Cockburn. With the money obtained from the sale of the Oxford Street property, the club members themselves built what would become their current premises.
